<span style="line-height:1.5;">The International Music Competition
Harbin (IMCH) will be held from January 12 to 26 January 2018 and is co-hosted
by the Harbin Municipal Government and Harbin Conservatory of Music. Harbin is
the capital city of Heilongjiang Province; being a cultural melting point of
Eurasia, it is today an important economic hub. Harbin is a city of unique
cultural traditions. In the 20th century many foreign immigrants arrived in
Harbin, and as a consequence western music and culture began to blossom in the
region. This blending process influenced greatly the musical life of the city
and its vicinity. Harbin Symphony Orchestra, the first of its kind in China, was
founded, as well as the festival Harbin Summer Music Concert, which is one of
the magnificent music festivals of China. In 2010, Harbin was awarded the
honorary title of “Music City” by the United Nations.</span>
of Music (HCOM), is the only state academy of arts in Heilongjiang Province. It
takes benefit of being adjacent to Russia with its great musical culture, and
is striving to establish musical education of international standard. Especially
by the cooperation with Russian partners HCOM aims to achieve this goal, intending
to be a cradle for musical talent from Heilongjiang and all China, and to be a base
for higher education and cultural exchange between China and Russia.
IMCH is an
international music competition with three sections: piano, violin, and voice. Instrumentalists
of an age between 20 and 34 years and vocalists up to 36 years will be admitted.
IMCH is run by the Organizing Committee, Arts Committee, and the Executive
Committee. Ye Xiaogang, President of the Chinese Musicians Association, is Director
of IMCH Arts Committee. Hu Yongyan, Chief Conductor of China National Symphony
Orchestra, holds the post of Music director of IMCH Arts Committee. Peter
Grote, with an experiene of countless international music competitions and
Artistic Director of Tchaikovsky Competition 2015, is appointed as General Secretary.
IMCH is inviting jury members of high esteem from Europe, America, China,
Russia. The piano and violin sections consist of four rounds: Round I, Round
II, Round III (Mozart concertos), and the final (with grand orchestra). The vocal
section has three rounds: Round I, Round II, and Round III (with grand orchestra).
The Organizing Committee of IMCH announced 4 prizes for pianists, 4 prizes for
violinists, 4 prizes for vocalists, and several special prizes in all sections
such as the Best Chinese Performance, the Best Commissioned Performance, and so
on. These prizes will be awarded to the contestants in the closing ceremony and
gala concert at the end of the competition on 26 january 2018.
